WILLEMSTAD — Political leader of MAN, Charles Cooper describes the decision of Job Cohen from sister party PvdA to hand in his resignation as an ambitious decision. Cohen is resigning because he did not succeed in putting his course into practice. However, according to Cooper, who had severely criticized the PvdA recently, it’s time that the Dutch party considers their course.Cohen’s official reason for resignation is that – in the political and media-reality of ‘The Hague’ – he hadn’t succeeded entirely in bringing the route to this decent society out into the open convincingly. Cohen is resigning as chairman of the parliamentary party, as political leader and Lower Chamber member. On being asked, Cooper states it’s an ambitious decision for a politician to resign because the latter had failed in realizing his goal. According to the MAN-leader, this is a good moment for the PvdA to consider their course.

Cooper emphasized this morning that although the PvdA is a sister party, they are responsible for their own course and vision. “If you ask me, the PvdA had lost their line entirely the past years. The PvdA is a social-democratic party, but I don’t recognize that in their course of action. The party lacks social justice and solidarity, has shifted to the right and lost their course”, said the MAN-leader. Cooper pointed out that this process with the PvdA has been going on for some time now. He believes the party would be wise to return to their basis and reestablish the social-democratic principles.
