KRALENDIJK — Last week was the ‘Siman di Salú Públiko’ (Week of the Public Health). The campaign started on Monday and the theme this year is ‘dengue prevention’. The department Public Health Care, which falls under the Directorate Society and Health Care of the Public Body Bonaire, had organized the week.

This was the first time that the week of public health was organized. The intention is to organize this event every year, with a current health theme.

This year the organization mainly focused on the children of the primary education. The aim is to make children aware of the role they can fulfill themselves in preventing dengue. The inspectors of the GKMB (Yellow Fever and Mosquito Control), experts in vector-control, visited all primary schools during the Siman di Salú Públiko to inform the children on dengue prevention.

Kolegio Papa Cornes was one of the schools, which the inspectors of GKMB visited. The inspectors showed the children how the breeding places of dengue mosquitoes originate and how to avoid them. The children were very interested and participated actively.

The intention is that the inspectors visit the primary schools every year to inform them on dengue prevention.
