WILLEMSTAD — Traditionally the presidential elections in the US attract much attention, also on Curaçao.
The electoral battle in the US was especially interesting four years ago. For the first time in the American history, a colored American competed to become the president, namely Barack Obama, who won convincingly from his opponent McCain. At the time Erwin Coster wrote the book ‘The US and the presidential election of 2008’. He decided to also write about this year’s election. The book ‘The United States of America and the presidential election of 2012’ departs from the previous book but is more detailed and is very profound. He used modern pedagogic-didactic insights to make the book attractive for everyone. This book wants to make the reader familiar with the latest history of the US, but starts with the history and social geography of America in a nutshell. The book contains a wealth of information. In first instance it is meant for pupils of the vsbo, havo, vwo or sbo schools. Of course, this book can also be used in the higher and scientific education. It elaborates on the genesis of the US and ends with the current situation: the US as the largest world power. The book also mentions the Trias Politica or the division of the state power (legislative, executive and judicial power) in the US and subsequently presents and explains the American presidential elections. It’s too premature to predict the outcome of the presidential election of November 6th. The reader will be able to give a founded preference for either Obama and Biden or Romney and Ryan. The schools of the secondary education (vsbo 3 + 4/sbo/havo/vwo) will receive a pupil set for class use, including a handout to make the most use of the book during history, geography, humans and society classes. The first presentation of the book will be on Saturday, October 6th from four to five-thirty p.m. at the National Library Dr. Frank Martinus Arion.
