WILLEMSTAD — Geomaly Martes, chairman of the Central Polling Station, is pleased with the Parliament Elections of October 19. Martes pointed out that although the elections had to be organized within a short period, he is pleased with the smooth procedure thanks to the cooperation received from all parties involved.
The public meeting of the Central Polling Station was held five days after the polling day, as established by law. The election result was confirmed officially during the meeting yesterday. Looking back on the entire process, Martes is pleased. “All had gone well. This is also the conclusion of the international observers. We are very happy with this. We can look back on a good cooperation with all parties involved, from the Kranshi-personnel up to the members of the VKC and the police.” Martes is also very pleased how quickly the election result on the polling day was announced. During the meeting of the Central Polling Station yesterday Martes still had to handle two complaints from the MFK party. The first compliant held a petition for a complete recount because the ballots hadn’t shown the party colors from FMK and PS. However, according to Martes, this was due to a misprint and pointed out yesterday that only two of these ballots had been seen. The voters, who had received these ballots, were given a new ballot and able to cast their vote. Also a second complaint from MFK on irregularities at polling station 37 (Pro Alfa) regarding the number of invalid votes was dismissed. During the meeting the invalid votes were checked at the station in question but nothing irregular was found. Official result: Political Groups Total MFK 18.450 Frente Obrero 1.790 Pueblo Soberano 19.715 MAN 8.294 PAR 17.179 Democraat/Laboral 1.127 PAIS 15.286 PNP 5.130 Valid votes 86.971 Blank/invalid 1.963 Persons called 11.6857 Nonappearance 27.923 Turnout percentage 76.10%
