WILLEMSTAD — The board of directors of the Curaçao International Financial Center (CIFC), which represents the financial sector, recently met with Ministers José Jardim (recommended by Glenn Sulvaran) and Steven Martina (Pais). It was the first time that the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Economic Development had a meeting with the sector and the CIFC. Several subjects were discussed during this meeting, for instance how the private sector and the government through CIFC could present an integral plan to promote the sector considering the latter is facing difficult times. The minister of Economic Development indicated there are plans to reduce the application period for permits. Martina and his ministry are working on a project together with the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) and the Ministry of Justice to establish a center permit counter. Both ministers endorse the importance of CIFC and acknowledge the international financial sector is an important economic pillar. The sector generates foreign currency for the country and employment.
